Right when I come home from college, and am able to do comic work, my computer decides not to boot the hardrive anymore. AGAIN. Except this time, not even the Gateway screen pops up. This is the worst trouble I've had with it ... that means I don't have my iTunes stuff organized anymore.................. Dammit. If I could express my seething rage across the internet, it'd probably tear a hole somewhere.

New hardrive will get to the technician sometime in the middle of this week. I'll start marking up the script for now (I lost my original copy with all my notes).

That's just the way it has been for every post I make on this blog that has seen more action on this site than the actual strip itself. Vanessah has been swamped with school work as of lately. I would like to take this time to ask anyone that views this site, any artists on board interested in doing some guest strips? Let me know.

Goodbye Life Study.... Hello Barry the Cherry

There has been a reason why there hasn't been any updates since October... it's because for, pretty much ever since we started working on Life Study, the two of us has been fighting back and fourth about putting in a character I thought of called Barry the Cherry. Vanessah kept saying crazy nonsense like ,"It makes no sense" or "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of ." Bah.... what does she know anyway? Surely a story involving a universe full of characters could use a magical Cherry for some reason or another. He could be the landlord of some apartment or even mayor! She doesn't understand the award winning potential that is a Cherry called Barry.

So, we reached a settlement. I would give Vanessah Life Study, which is what I'll say, but if other cartoonists mentioned it being about her stealing Life Study from me, then I'll come out and say ya she did stole Life Study from me. In exchange that she puts my name above her own in anything involving Life Study. Fair is fair afterall.

So it back, forget about seeing a story written from me about something touching and thought provoking and get ready to read a webcomic like no other. i'm even thinking about it having it be video game related! Oh boy, my originality knows no bounds!

Vanessah and I haven been discussing the outline for chapter two, once we finalized that, I'll be starting writing the script for it. We are looking to start the strips around this month or by the very latest spring time.

Revamp

We are looking into getting things ready for 2007. We curse ourselves about the delays we've been having as of late. But we are doing the comic, we assure you. We'll look into have the contents of the site organized by the time we get things up and running for the first strip of chapter 1.

In the mean-time, I want to say that I got word yesterday that a theatre community in my area are going to be doing a stage verison of a story idea of Life Study, a prequel actually, set a few years before the events of chapter one. I'm relly exicited of the fact that a web-comic/manga like this can also be adapted to other mediums. I can't wait to see it and hopefully we can work out something for you guys to view it as well.

Vanessah and I apologize for the lack of updates over the past little while. We are both adjusting to thing thrown at us [with Vanessah, it's school] and me it's work. We are aiming to have a strip uploaded once a week on Saturday.

The Madcap Adventures Of The Artist And The Writer

Here it is, the first madcap strip, although not the first one written. We have a backlog of madcaps strips written out that Vanessah will draw if we ever need a madcap for filler inreplace of a strip update. The designs of us is based well on us of course, but they are the chibi style that Vanessah was using for her filler strips for EarthBound. She wanted to practice drawing the designs for the madcaps, so I suggested this comic idea about the play I co-directed, Bucket. A gift for the cast/crew, to show people in my area Vanessah's work and a experiment for her as well, which is what the madcap strips are all about. They will be pretty whacky.
Speaking of Bucket, the last performance for that in the one acts was on Friday. Saturday, I catched Wingin' it, which featured four 15 minute plays which were written in the span of 24 hours, and I was laughing so hard that my sides were hurting. There was one that had actual beer on stage, in bottles and there were two times that when the bottles were open, beer poured out pretty fast and onto the stage, and one time, into a section of the audience. But all four shows were hilarious and I am so going to do Wingin' it if they do it again. I was kicking myself for not going for it.
After the show, was the cast party which was more mellow than usual, which considering things have been frantic for me for the last little while, that was probably a good thing.

Hey, gang, wanted to pop on by to say er... write that opening night for Bucket was a success! I can't wait to see perfomed tomorrow night!

By the way, a comic will be uploaded on sunday. Something that'll be a regular feature called, "The Madcap Adventures Of The Artist And The Writer" or rather just Madcap comics that will act as filler.

Incase any of you were wondering, Bucket is coming along nicely. I can't wait till next week when we get it at the musuem. I can't wait to see the Wingin' It on the 19th. It looks like it'll be fun to watch. I thought of doing it to test out my improvisied writing, but with the new job, this directing gig, the comic and my other writing gig with the voice acting alliance, I wouldn't have the energy to do it.

Guest strip and other news

Thanks for the guest strip, Mentoc. I think this is the first case of a guest strip being the second strip uploaded for a webcomic in the history of webcomics. If that's true, then I'll gladly accept whatever perks such a title has.

I mentioned in a couple of posts ago that I'll be directing a piece called To The White House, but due to ermmm creative differences with the writer and technical issues, we [Jay and I] have to go with a new script to direct called Bucket, written by local Saint John author Dan Culberson. It's a very funny and sweet story at the same time. Something that I can relate on a personal level more than the political satire we were originally going to do. I'll keep you guys updated on the process of this venture.

In other other news, after a period between christmas eve and yesterday, I was without a real paying job, but now... I have one! Woot!

And So Begins Life Study

So after almost 3 months of prep work, we have our first image uploaded onto the site. The chapter heading for Chapter 1, which is based on a script I wrote back in 2005 and it was something that I pitched to Vanessah [not asking her to draw any comic mind you] but to get her opinion if the story could make a good comic. She was REALLY nice enough to offer to do the art and I happily accepted her offer.
Before she did this splash, she did some sample art for the cast and crew in a play I was in back in April called Moonchildren. This is a bit different than what Vanessah made for the cast and crew in terms of style. She did a black and white in pencil style drawing. This is the inking and toning method she'll apply for the comic if I'm not mistaken. Although the actions in the chapters will be in black and white.
Sorry for not having much content besides the occasional post on the blog and in the forum from the two of us. We understand that we were running behind and we'll be more prompt in the future [unless something comes up that takes our time, which we'll try to make some filler and all that jazz] but we don't want another 2-3 months of limbo. Thank you to everyone that has joined the forums and or have stood behind us and supported us during the limbo era.
Now, like I said in the first post in this blog: Enjoy the comic!

Hellote everyone. Yet another post than a comic being uploaded. Vanessah is hard at work with the color. She showed me the template of the color verison with the splash in black and white a couple of days ago [got it as my desktop wallpaper just like I did with the rough draft she made]. At this point, I want to say, it's nice to see the forums starting to get some content in there and seeing new members joining. Thank you guys!

Yet again in other news [not the name of this post mind you] I'm going to be a co-director for a one act play for a fringe festival called Theatre On The Edge. I'll be directing along with Jay Rawding, a political satire called To The White House. It involves a conversation between George Bush Jr and Canadian Prime Minister, Steven Harper. And insainty insues. I got the script yesterday and had some concerns but I feel that this script could work. It'll be something different and original for the Saint John Theatre Company.

First off, today I got the rough draft of the chapter splash from Vanessah. I approved the design and now she'll be inking it. It'll be up as soon as it can and then the fun will begin with the comic.

In other news [hey, it's the title of this post, don't cha know!] I am now a staff writer for the Voice Acting Alliance! Woot! Incase you don't know what the VAA is, it is an online community for amateur voice actors. My jobs will include writing articles about well... writing! I'll also be reviewing productions from time to time as well as help spear heading any group activities. I'm really into this deal very much, but don't worry, I'll still devote the time to write this comic both the story and the whacky humor strips.

Don't worry, we are still working on this comic, just having a bit of a lag. Vanessah is working on the CG chapter splash and I'm doing some revisions on chapter 1 and writing up our filler strips that I would like to see become a regular feature.
So ya, we haven't stopped working on this webcomic, just give us some time.
